I have been coaching for over 12 years now. I still am like a little kid Three days before Christmas before every tournament. From the time the tournament makes until we step on the field I am like "Oh yeah we get to play ball". Is it just me or do other coaches , players ,and parents feel the same way

Theirs nothing like being at the tournament 2hrs before you play your 8am game. The complex is dark and no one in site. I walk in pulling the team wagon full of our gear, and I can not help think to myself, are we ready? Who is our weakest link and what can we do to keep her on top. Will everyone show? The smell of fresh cut grass and the sound of birds dancing through the fields. Soon other teams start pouring in, sleepy eyed, and fighting the sand man. Now complex is buzzing with players and familys ready to perform. PLAY BALL!
Here we go, please no erriors, focus, talk it up ladies. Game Day! I Love It!
Softball its in my blood and I love it! Go USA!

I don't think it's just you. I think there are a lot of players and coaches (and some parents) who feel that way. If they don't, at least a little, it's probably time to stop.

Softball is definitely in my blood, too! I am a coach in a rec league plus the 14U All-Stars from that league.

I recently was one of the scorekeepers for the 12U Babe Ruth World Series in Audubon, PA...even though i wasn't coaching in any of the games, i still felt excitement and tension for every one!

It aint just you Outlaw I feel the same way. It is an blessing to coach my travel team and I miss a lot of sleep thinking of different situations like bunts with runners in scoring position and who should cover what and how can we do it better. Can we get our leadoff on in the first? Can we get that lead run in the first inning to go ahead and pressure the opponent? This game of fastpitch is the best sport played, its fast with the short base paths which makes the short game very important. I LOVE THIS GAME and There is nothing like GAME TIME!

It is harder on me as a coach than it was as a player. After almost 30 years coaching I still sleep very little the night before a tournament. Maybe when I do not get excited it will be time to finally quit.
