Just watched the opening day of the CWS and noticed that pitchers that chewed gum/wore sun glasses lost their game. I have always believed that chewing gum and pitching don't make a very good combo. The other pet peeve is sun glasses, I believe that they are essential for outfielders and maybe infielders if they are facing the sun directly, but as for pitchers I believe that they are a distraction. Keep watching and see if my theory is correct.
I know batters who will pick up the pitchers eyes and check to see if she's looking inside or outside for her target. I believe that's part of why pitchers wear sunglasses - hides the eyes and therefore, for some batters hides a potential "giveaway" of pitch location.
I'm with you on the gum thing though. I do believe gum is more a distraction than anything. Okay for coaches though! LOL
